WT Access to Expertise

Applications are invited to apply for flexible funds, awarded to the University of Cambridge by the Wellcome Trust, through an Institutional Translational Partnership Award (iTPA).

The funds are to support the outsourcing of expertise (consultancy) for ongoing and new projects in order to accelerate the development of therapeutics. Projects aiming to research and develop drugs, biologicals, gene therapy, or medical devices for human patient treatment, management or diagnosis are all within scope.

These awards will allow the applicant to:

  • gain evidence of the feasibility (or otherwise) of their translational plans
  • unblock specific bottlenecks to shift their research to the next phase of translation
  • strengthen their chances of obtaining downstream funding

Such expertise could be in the form of:

  • regulatory advice
  • health economics
  • competitor landscape
  • market analysis
  • biostatistics
  • business plan
  • technical expertise in a specific therapeutic modality (beyond the expertise of our current industry experts in residence)

**Please note that this list is not exhaustive and other approaches of overcoming research challenges by accessing expertise will also be considered.**

Funds cannot be used to support:

  • Patent landscaping, filing or similar costs for registering intellectual property rights, as this type of support is offered by Cambridge Enterprise.
  • Salary costs
  • Laboratory work or clinical trials

Fund will support costs up to a maximum of £15,000.
