Postdoctoral Neuroscience Opportunities in Hotchkiss Brain Institute at the University of Calgary

Postdoctoral Position in Protease Neuroimmunology

A position for a post-doctoral fellow is available immediately for a highly qualified individual to work on protease biology in inflammatory disorders, particularly in the context of multiple sclerosis. The applicant must have a solid background in immunology and protein biochemistry, and must have good working knowledge of generating conditional null mice from existing floxed and Cre-recombinase lines. Our laboratory supports a broad spectrum of research infrastructure and expertise, has about 15 individuals at most times, and is committed to advancing the career aspirations of trainees in academia. Our projects are largely grouped into the area of neuroimmunology, seeking to reduce neural injury by immune cells on the one hand, and harnessing the benefits of inflammation for neural repair on the other.

Our laboratory (http://www.vweeyong.com/) is located at the Hotchkiss Brain Institute (www.hbi.ucalgary.ca/) at the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.  The Institute is home to over 100 neuroscientists working on various aspects of basic and applied neurobiology, creating a highly stimulating and vibrant research and training environment.

Please send a cover letter, CV and names of 3 references to Dr. V. Wee Yong (vyong@ucalgary.ca).

Postdoctoral Position in Micro-Imaging of Neural – Immune Interactions

A position for a post-doctoral fellow is available immediately for a highly qualified individual to examine interactions between neural and immune cells, focusing on mechanisms of injury and cytoprotection in the context of multiple sclerosis. The applicant must have a solid background in immunology and neurobiology, and must have advanced microscopy skills. The successful applicant will use cutting edge techniques such as polarization 2-photon microscopy, coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) and fluorescence spectroscopy of ex vivo and in vivo spinal cord tissue. Supervision will be jointly by Drs. V. Wee Yong (http://www.vweeyong.com/) and Peter Stys. We are committed to providing the best opportunities to advance the career aspirations of trainees.
