Call for External Expertise to Join Cross-Whitehall Trial Advice Panel

The closing date for applications is 14th November 2014

Background

An opportunity has arisen for researchers with field trials expertise to join a Cross Government Advisory Panel being co-ordinated by the Cabinet Office.   The closing date for applications is 14th November 2014, to be made directly to the Cabinet Office. This is a high profile opportunity to work with policymakers across Government and generate visible impact on the evidence base for social policy interventions.

Eligibility

The Cabinet Office is seeking five to ten experts from academia to work alongside the Government members of the panel and to offer the following skills:

  • Practical experience of designing and running large-scale RCTs or other controlled trials;
  • An ability to turn expert knowledge into practical, helpful advice; and
  • An understanding of the policy environment and the realities of undertaking trials at pace in complex areas of social policy – and ideally some prior experience of working with Government

NB: All applicants wishing to join the panel should indicate in their application the amount of time they could offer (ideally between 7 -30 days) over a 12 month period starting December 2014.

How to apply

Researchers should email applications (no longer than two pages) indicating reasons for applying, level of their trials expertise, previous experience advising on trials, any previous involvement in Government research, and amount of time available to contribute to the panel. Please also provide a CV and a supporting letter from their host institution (IAA manager if appropriate) indicating the level of support they are making available.

The closing date for applications is 14th November 2014 and will be followed by short informal interviews led by the Cabinet Office.

Further information is included here. Questions about this opportunity should be addressed to Laura Baynton at the Cabinet Office, laura.baynton@cabinet-office.gsi.gov.uk
