Magstim Neuroscience Conference 2014

May 10th/11th 2014-01-15

The Examination Schools, Oxford, UK

Magstim are pleased to announce that booking is now open for this year's "Summer School" - The Magstim Neuroscience Conference 2014, which will be held at The Examination Schools, Oxford, UK on the 10th and 11th of May 2014. Members of Cambridge Neuroscience will be entitled to a 10% discount on registration (promotional code: CAM10).

The Magstim Neuroscience Conference 2014 will feature guest talks from International Key Opinion Leaders across a range of topics in the neuroscience field with academic conference organisers Prof Vince Walsh (UCL), Dr Sven Bestmann (UCL) and Dr Charlotte Stagg (University of Oxford).

Speakers confirmed include:

  • Dr Juha Silvanto - State-dependent transcranial magnetic stimulation in cognitive neuroscience
  • Professor Hartwig Siebner - Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation - It's all about connectivity
  • Dr Amanda Ellison - Connecting your brain’s dots using neurostimulation
  • Dr Jacinta O'Shea - Driving adaptive neural plasticity: from bench to bedside
  • Dr Eva Feredoes - Using TMS to reveal the neural mechanisms underlying short-term memory
  • Dr Joseph Devlin - The neurobiology of reading
  • Professor Heidi Johansen-Berg - Promoting plasticity and recovery with tDCS
  • Professor Colleen Loo - Novel developments in electrical brain stimulation therapies
  • Professor Linda Carpenter - Current and Future Applications of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation for Treating Depression and Other Brain Disorders
  • Professor John Rothwell - Are controllable pulse TMS machines a useful addition to brain stimulation methods?
  • Professor Ken Tsutsui – Talk title to be confirmed

In addition to the guest speaker talks Magstim will be showcasing all new “Masterclass Sessions”. The sessions will be strictly limited in number to ensure that delegates receive high quality interactive talks with the opportunity for a Q and A session with the speaker.

This year Magstim are offering Masterclass Sessions with experts in the field.

Prof John Rothwell - The Physiology of TMS

Dr Sven Bestmann - Combining TMS with other methods

Prof Vincent Walsh - Brain Stimulation and Cognition

Other classes TBC are TDCS

The master classes are intended for scientists at all levels of experience. Delegates are encouraged to contribute rather than just listen, and within a class, some of the agenda will be set by the discussion that is generated. Whatever the level of experience of a participant, we hope the workshop will be valuable. The idea is to get away from delivery of received wisdom and discuss some of the topics that are real, but for which there is often neither the time nor the forum to discuss. Examples would be ethics, replicability, assumptions in the literature and validity of claims and interpretations. Magstim very much hope that both experienced and junior scientists will attend and make the workshops a new experience.
