Big Data: Innovation in analysis, usability and curation. Science Engineering South Early Career Researcher Event, 18th September 2015, Southampton

This event is aimed at early career researchers, to explore the meaning and impact of working with “Big Data” as an interdisciplinary theme of strategic importance and to promote networking and collaboration opportunities for early career researchers across institutions and disciplines.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Prof Ajit Shenoi (Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute)  on “Big Data in the Context of Ocean Space”
  • Dr Sara Butcher (Imperial Faculty of Medicine - Surgery & Cancer) on “Negotiating the maze – data complexity in the Life Sciences”
  • Prof Fai Cheng (Lloyd's Register Global Technology Centre) of “Big data and its transformational effects”
  • Dr Jennifer Schooling (Cambridge Engineering - CSIC) on “The Problem of Time: Big Data for Infrastructure Asset Management”.
  • Dr Rosie Bolton (Cambridge Astrophysics) on “The Square Kilometre Array: a new paradigm in radio astronomy data analysis”
  • Prof Jens Rittscher (Oxford TDI & Institute of Biomedical Research) on “Developing big data image analytics for advancing drug development and clinical pathology”


A few places remain for early-career researchers to attend this event – support for travel expenses is available.
