Two Research Scientist positions available: Axon Degeneration

A postdoctoral research scientist is required for a project in the group of Dr. Michael Coleman, pictured right, to identify the molecular target of a drug that delays the degeneration of axons. Using genetic and pharmacological methods in primary neuronal culture, the successful candidate will study the effects on axon survival of deleting a target protein, testing existing and new inhibitors and studying the metabolic consequences by mass spectrometry and other methods.  Conclusive identification of the target should provide a firm basis for follow-up optimisation and in vivo studies. This is a limited term contract with funding available for up 20 months. On applying please quote reference MC/SPOC/ST.

Research Assistant: Axon Degeneration

Duration: Up to 2 years

The Research Assistant will support a range of projects within the group primarily through coordination of mouse breeding, genotyping and tissue preparation, with a particular focus on models of Alzheimer’s disease and Huntington’s disease. There is ample scope to learn other methods as desired and for some independent project work. This is a limited term contract with funding available for up to two years.
