Restricted Call: Sir Jules Thorn Award for Biomedical Research

Applications are now open for the Sir Jules Thorn Award for Biomedical Research. This annual competition offers a grant of up to £1.5 million for up to five years for a programme of the highest quality translational research, focusing on patients, and led by investigators of outstanding quality in the early years of an established research and academic career. Please note that this funding cannot be used to cover salary costs.
 
Examples of the type of research funded under this programme can be found in the Previous Awards section of the Trust’s website www.julesthorntrust.org.uk. The Guidance Notes available for download from the Guidance Notes section of the Trust’s website provide further information on the call’s requirements. Please note that the award may not be used for Cancer or HIV / AIDS related research.
 
Examples of work that would be suitable for funding include:
 
  • Significant proposals which could lead to improved diagnosis and/or prognostic methods and to new treatments
  • Concept validation
  • Intervention trials.
 
Only one application per institution is permitted and this call will be coordinated according to the Restricted Calls Procedure: http://www.research-strategy.admin.cam.ac.uk/restricted-calls-funding/restricted-calls-procedure
 
Internal Selection: Please send the attached Internal Selection Form and a letter from your Head of Department confirming their support for the project and that Department is happy to host it to researchstrategy@admin.cam.ac.uk by 5th September 2016 (17:00).
