Dear Colleagues,

MRC has invited the University to submit an institutional applications for the MRC Discovery Awards Scheme. The Discovery Awards scheme provides awards of £400k-£1m to institutions to support discovery research in areas with potential for development, which are strategically sound within the institution’s strategy, and are also important nationally. The awards are intended to be flexible - giving scope to support recruitment or initial development of new PIs at junior or senior levels, and/or to support linked pilot work, or technology and methods development. The objective of Discovery Awards is to provide a new mechanism for MRC to work strategically with universities via a developmental award, focused on basic science.

Restricted call: The University is allowed to submit only one application and therefore this call will be coordinated according to University’s Restricted Calls Policy: http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/offices/rso/restricted/ .

 

If you are interested in applying for this call, please send your name and department a brief summary (one paragraph) of what you are proposing by email to researchstrategy@admin.cam.ac.uk by 22nd July 2015. Please refer to the MRC guidance (http://www.mrc.ac.uk/funding/browse/discovery-awards-scheme/) regarding the types of the programmes and activities that are eligible on this grant.  Apologies for a short deadline for internal applications, as the University has sought further clarification from MRC on the type of activity that can be supported by this grant.
