Pinsent Darwin Studentship in Mental Pathology

The Managers of the Pinsent Darwin Fund are pleased to be able to offer a studentship for a PhD student, starting in October 2010, wishing to “pursue original research into any problem which may have a bearing on mental defects, diseases or disorders.”

It has been agreed that, as occurred last year, there should be an internal competition whereby department Graduate Directors each put forward one suitable candidate from their departments.  In the interests of the candidates these should not be students who are expected to be awarded an MRC or other equally prestigious nationally funded studentship.  Outwith this criterion though, they should be the Department’s best candidate for an award.   Funding will be available at Home/EU rate only.  Candidates from outside the EU will be considered but they will have to find additional funding to make up the difference in fee rates between Home/EU students and International students.

The Pinsent Darwin Fund Managers will convene in May to decide which candidate put forward should be awarded the studentship.

Applications from suitable candidates should be sent by the Graduate Directors  to Mrs Carolyn Read:, and should include a one page project proposal, cv, references and letter of support from either the Head of Department, potential supervisor or Graduate Director.

The closing date for applications is Friday 7th May 2009
