Selected Awards and Honours to Cambridge Neuroscience members

• The Brain Prize for 2017 was awarded to Cambridge’s Wolfram Schultz (pictured above), together with Peter Dayan and Ray Dolan from University College London for their analysis of how the brain recognises and processes reward. 
• Carol Brayne was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to public health medicine.
• The Society of Biological Psychiatry announced Professor Trevor Robbins as the recipient of the Society’s 2017 Gold Medal Award. This award is special as it is given for lifetime achievement in advancing our understanding and treatment of psychiatric illness.
• Sander van der Linden was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) for prominent contributions to social change research.
• Peter St George-Hyslop won the Ryman Prize in recognition of his more than 30 years of ground-breaking contribution to research into neuro-degenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s Disease.
• David Rubinsztein was made a Fellow of the Royal Society and also was awarded the Thudichum Medal from the Biochemical Society for outstanding contributions to neuroscience.
• Karen Ersche won the Jacob P. Waltezky Award for research on cocaine addiction.
• Trevor Robbins won the 2017 Goldman-Rakic Award for Cognitive Neuroscience Research.
• Adel Helmy was awarded the Royal College of Surgeons of England Hunterian Professorship 2017 for his work on Neuroinflammation following Traumatic Brain Injury.
• The BSDB announced William Harris as the 2017 winner of the Waddington Medal for his pioneering contributions to the understanding of retinal development.
• Amy Milton was awarded the Young Scientist Award at the European Behavioural Pharmacology Society(EBPS) 2017 Biennial Meeting. 
• Barbara Sahakian (Department of Psychiatry) and Julia Gottwald (Department of Psychiatry), won the British Psychological Society Book Award in the Popular Science Category for their book, Sex, Lies and Brain Scans: How fMRI Reveals What Really Goes on in Our Minds. 
• Barbara Sahakian was elected to the Fellowship of the British Academy.
• Robin Franklin was awarded the 2017 Barancik Prize for Innovation in MS Research.
• Dervila Glynn (Coordinator of Cambridge Neuroscience) won the British Neuroscience 2017 award for Public Engagement of Neuroscience.
• Dervila Glynn (Coordinator of Cambridge Neuroscience) has been elected Chair of the FENS Communication Committee from July 2018 - taking up her post at the FENS Forum in Berlin. She will sit on the FENS executive committee and will lead the FENS communications effort leading up to the 2020 Forum that will be hosted by the BNA and take place in Glasgow.
• A series of films illustrating how research using animals is helping further our understanding of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) was awarded the 2017 Openness Award in the category of Website or Use of New Media.
• Pain in the Machine was one of four films made by Cambridge researchers for the 2016 Cambridge Shorts series, funded by Wellcome Trust ISSF. Beth Singler (Faculty of Divinity) and Ewan St John Smith (Department of Pharmacology) collaborated with Colin Ramsay and James Uren of Little Dragon Films. The film won Best Research Film of the Year 2017 at the 2017 AHRC Research in Film Awards.
• Paul Fletcher consulted on an award-winning video game (Hellblade) depicting severe mental illness with Ninja Theory. As of August 2017, there have been 29 articles in major newspapers and 5.46M Twitter impressions. The game has won three major awards, including one on impact.
