Restricted call: ESRC Large Grants competition 2018 (internal deadline 10th May 2018)

The ESRC has announced the Large Grants competition 2018 call for Outline Proposals.

The aim of this call is to fund proposals for standard research projects, large-scale surveys, infrastructure projects, and for methodological developments in any area of the social sciences. ESRC actively encourage interdisciplinarity, both within and beyond the social sciences (excellent research within a particular social science discipline is also welcome).

Outline proposals should be £1 - 2.5 million (at 100% fEC – ESRC will fund 80% of fEC) between 3 – 5 years. ESRC expect to fund up to 4 awards. 

ESRC expectations are that Large Grants:

  • undertake a programme of ambitious research
  • show strong commitment for the career development of researchers (particularly at early-career stage)
  • make significant contributions to scientific, economic or social impact
  • involve potential users of research
  • take advantage of international collaborative and/or comparative opportunities

Studentships are not eligible under this call.

University Internal selection:

The University can only lead on three applications. Therefore, this call will be managed according to the University's restricted calls policy. 

To take part in the University internal selection process please submit the attached internal selection form together with a support letter from the Head of the Department / Centre / Institute that will hold the grant, confirming their support for the project and agreement to host the grant to by 10th May 2018.

Funder deadline: 14th June 2018.
