Funding to attend workshop in Brazil on CNS therapies

The British Council has grants for early career researchers (see Eligibility section) to attend a workshop in Brazil on understanding and advancing CNS therapies. Costs of all travel, accommodation and meals for participants will be covered. Places are available for 16 researchers from Brazil and the UK (32 in total). 

This workshop is part of the Newton Researcher Links programme, funded under the Newton Fund. The workshop is being organized by Dr. Angela Bithell (University of Reading, UK) and Dr. Helena Cimarosti (Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Brazil). 

The workshop will take place in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil, 18th-21st September 2015.

The core themes of the workshop are:

  • Human stem cells to treat acute nerve injury and neurodegeneration
  • Pluripotent stem cell models of brain development, function and disease
  • Ischemia and mitochondrial dysfunction in neurodegeneration
  • Models of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease for therapeutic discovery
  • Stem cell-based modelling of epilepsy
  • Neurosurgical approaches and use of patient brain samples in epilepsy

Eligibility

  • Applications must be submitted using the Researcher Links application form available from the Downloads section
  • Participants must be early career researchers defined as holding a PhD for less than 10 years on the starting date of the workshop
  • Participants must be affiliated to UK or Brazilian higher education or research institutions at the time of the application
