Vacancy: Director, Queensland Brain Institute

Vacancy: Director, Queensland Brain Institute

The Queensland Brain Institute (QBI), established in 2003 under the leadership of Founding Director Professor Perry Bartlett, has developed a reputation as one of the world's leading neuroscience research institutes.  Part of the University of Queensland, the Institute is home to over 450 scientific staff led by 33 Principal Investigators.  Its annual budget of $35 million includes $24 million in research income.

To focus on important areas, QBI has recently established three Institute Centres: The Science of Learning Centre; The Clem Jones Centre for Ageing Dementia Research and; The Centre for Neurogenetics and Statistical Genomics. The importance of QBI's research is demonstrated through publications in the most prestigious international journals and a very high success rate in NHMRC and ARC grants.

The Director provides overall leadership for the Institute by setting the vision and direction, developing and supporting staff, and fostering a culture of excellence.  They will also be responsible for financial sustainability, developing research programs and priorities, and building relationships with partners and clients.  They should be capable of maintaining the Institute's excellence in research and international standing, while moving the Institute to the next level of performance by building upon existing strategic research directions.

The role requires an individual from either a basic science or clinical background, with an outstanding track record of research as the Director is expected to establish an international research program. The Director should possess well established leadership skills, charisma, and a proven capacity to attract funding from philanthropy and other sources by developing national and international linkages with world leading individuals and organisations.
