BNA call for nominations for National Committee

The BNA is the largest UK organisation representing all aspects of neuroscience. We currently have around 1700 members and are growing in number.
We are calling for nominations for our National Committee in the three following categories. We are seeking active and committed individuals, with ideas and initiative, who will help drive the BNA forward. Eligible candidates must be current BNA members.

Membership of the National Committee is for 2 years in the first instance, and the Committee meets approximately every three months.

Membership secretary
The BNA exists for its members and membership fees are a core income stream. We want to attract neuroscientists in all stages of their careers, from undergraduates to senior PIs.

Therefore the Membership Secretary has a crucial role in the following areas:

  • Familiarity with the current categories of members
  • Initiating new ways to increase membership and to maintain existing membership
  • Proposing new membership benefits
  • Engaging in discussions about the BNA’s general activities that affect membership
  • Advising on administration associated with membership and liaising with BNA Head Office

Professional Society Liaison
Collaboration with other societies with an interest in the brain is not only productive but essential.  Fruitful collaboration is a benefit to members and strengthens the BNA’s profile in global neuroscience.

The Professional Society Liaison officer must be active in the following areas:

  • Suggest to BNA Head Office new ways in which the BNA can liaise with other societies
  • Along with BNA Head Office, monitor the activities of relevant professional societies to ensure that all opportunities for joint initiatives and applications for grants are made available
  • Represent the BNA and its interests at meetings with other societies
  • Help BNA be seen as ‘the voice of British neuroscience’
  • Increase recognition of the BNA amongst other organisations

Corporate Representative
The BNA must significantly increase its liaison with the corporate sector, not only pharmaceutical companies but other fields of business and industry.  Understanding the brain will help drive the economy. The Corporate
Representative will:

  • Work with BNA Head Office to increase corporate membership
  • Advise on corporate sponsorship
  • Represent the BNA at corporate events, as appropriate
  • Develop strategies for a closer working relationship between the corporate sector and the BNA
