What is the BNA?

The BNA is the largest body in the UK representing all aspects of neuroscience from ion channels to whole animal behaviour to neuroscience applications in the clinic. The Aims and Objectives of the Association can be found here.

Why Join the BNA?

The BNA is a growing learned society, now boasting over 1500 members (as at August 2011). In addition to discounted journals and books and other occasional 'special offers', the benefits of membership now include the following:

  1. Reduced registration fees (up to 50%) to the National Meeting, and FREE admission to many events throughout the year including 'One Day Symposia' and 'The Christmas Symposium'.
  2. Regular mailing of BNA Bulletin and other relevant items.
  3. Regular BNA and FENS e-bulletin service covering latest neuroscience news, events and vacancies.
  4. Student prizes, and bursaries for attendance at BNA and FENS meetings.
  5. Free on-line access to European Journal of Neuroscience.
  6. Concessionary registration fees and FENS sponsored abstract forms for Society for Neuroscience annual meeting.
  7. Free advertising in the BNA Bulletin, the BNA e.bulletin and on the BNA Website.
  8. Free (automatic) membership of the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS) and the International Brain Research Organisation (IBRO).







Abstract deadline has been extended to January 6th 2013

The BNA’s 22nd National Meeting, the Festival of Neuroscience, will be a unique event - hosting a top line-up of world renowned experts in neuroscience- with eight plenary lectures and a public lecture from Anders Björklund on "Stem cell therapy for Parkinson's disease: Problems and prospects", see the full line up of plenary speakers and their talks.
The abstract deadline has been extended to January 6th 2013. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to showcase your research at the hottest neuroscience event in the UK.  Abstract submission guidelines can be viewed here.

BNA members benefit from significantly reduced registration fees so please encourage your friends and colleagues to join, details can be found here.  Please help us to spread the word by forwarding emails about the BNA2013: Festival of Neuroscience to your colleagues- not just neuroscientists, but also people in related fields such as psychology and bioengineering.

Travel stipends available

The BNA in conjunction with the Wellcome Trust is delighted to offer Travel Stipends to qualifying members of the BNA to attend the BNA2013: Festival of Neuroscience.
Criteria and submission guidelines can be viewed here.
Deadline for receipt of applications is 1st February 2013.  Successful applicants will be informed by 1st March 2013.

Submissions open for ‘Street Fair’ activity: Festival of Neuroscience public programme

The Wellcome Trust and Barbican have teamed up and will be programming an array of exciting events for the public to take place in the run up and alongside the BNA2013: Festival of Neuroscience.

During the Festival of Neuroscience, the Wellcome Trust will be holding a public programme which will run from Sunday 7 – Tuesday 10 April 2013 featuring talks, discussions, art, film, performance, demonstrations and a touch of everything in-between. If you would like to be involved in this exciting project then please sumbit an application for consideration. See further information and submission guidelines.

Christmas Symposium 2012: have you registered?

Christmas will be upon us soon and with FREE registration for BNA members, we encourage you to sign up for the Christmas Symposium 2012 as soon as possible.
Going home for Christmas: but how do we get there? The Neuroscience of Navigation.
Wednesday 19th December, The Royal Society, London – book your place today!

This symposium brings together a range of top-flight speakers, including Dr Emma Wood and Dr Dora Biro, to illuminate our current understanding of animal navigation, from the individual to swarms, shoals and flocks.  The BNA postgraduate and undergraduate awards will also be presented during the meeting.
