4-year PhD studentship in Neuroscience

Title: ‘Schizophrenia in a dish: an acute ex-vivo model for drug testing’

A PhD Studentship for up to 4 years to conduct research under the supervision of Professor Ole Paulsen at the Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience, Cambridge, and Dr Stuart Hughes at Eli Lilly is available from October 2012. The student will use advanced optogenetic technology to develop an acute neural circuit model of schizophrenia, and investigate the effects of established antipsychotic drugs as well as new drug candidates in this model. The first year of this four-year studentship may be offered as a Masters course in Basic and Translational Neuroscience including a taught component and two research rotations, one of which would be industry based. The studentship will be awarded on a competitive basis and applicants will be expected to demonstrate a strong academic background and an aptitude for research.
