University of Cambridge CamPain network

Cambridge Neuroscientists Peter McNaughton from the Department of Pharmacology, Geoff Woods from the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research (CIMR) and David Menon and Dan Wheeler from the Division of Anaesthetics, jointly with Neusentis, a local pain-oriented branch of the large multinational drug company Pfizer, have been awarded grants from the MRC, the BBSRC and the NIHR totalling more than £3m. Their work will explore the involvement of membrane ion channels in pain in both humans and animals. They will employ an integrated approach using molecular biology, electrophysiology, human genetic studies and clinical trials. The group will be called the CamPain network.
