Charles Warlow Prize by the British Association of Stroke Physicians
Nicholas Evans

Congratulations to Nicholas Evans (Medicine) who has been awarded the prestigious Charles Warlow Prize by the British Association of Stroke Physicians. This prize is awarded to a young investigator in recognition of their research in cerebrovascular disease. Nicholas’ work demonstrates the feasibility of delivering thrombolysis and hyper-acute care for ischaemic stroke using telemedicine.

The results showed that the service was able to deliver hyper-acute thrombolysis to approximately 1,300 people having an acute stroke. These findings are particularly important for the delivery of acute stroke care across large geographical regions where the major centres may be far away, and shows that such emergency treatment can be delivered with specialist input at an individual’s local hospital. As part of the award, Nicholas has been awarded an all expenses-paid trip to Australia to present these findings at the Stroke Society of Australia in 2020.
