NC3Rs is launching the CRACK IT Challenges - up to £1M available per challenge

This year the NC3Rs is launching the CRACK IT Challenges competition at an event in central London on 5 September.

 

The Competition

CRACK IT Challenges is a milestone-driven funding competition from the NC3Rs which is designed to:

• Minimise the use of animals in research;

• Support the development of marketable products and/or improved business processes.

 

This year the Challenges are funded by the NC3Rs, the Technology Strategy Board and Alzheimer’s Research UK with in-kind contribution from the Challenge sponsors.

 

Each of the five Challenges offers:

• Up to £1m funding.
• A research contract for up to three years.
• In-kind contributions such as data, compounds and expertise from sponsors.

 

The Challenges

• UnTangle: Development of an iPS cell neuronal network platform to assay tau spread and pathology for Alzheimer's disease drug development (sponsored by Alzheimer’s Research UK and Lilly).

 

• Inhalation Translation: Development of an approach to non-invasively assess inflammation and adverse events in rodent models of respiratory disease (sponsored by Huntingdon Life Sciences and Pfizer).

 

• InPulse: iPS cell cardiomyocyte platform to assess drug-induced contractility liabilities (sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline).

 

• NephroTube: Development of a multi-compartmental, microfluidic tissue model of tubular injury in assays of nephrotoxicity (sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer and Roche).

 

• Virtual Lab: Use of virtual information and tools to enhance disease modeling and new target development (sponsored by the NC3Rs).

 

The launch event - Register now

The launch event provides an opportunity to meet the Challenge sponsors and potentially new collaborators. It is free to attend but registration is essential. The deadline for registration is 28 August 2013.
