In the neurosurgery laboratory we use analytical techniques such as HPLC, ELISA and Luminex Multiplex to measure levels of chemicals and proteins in brain microdialysate samples. Brain microdialysis is used in the neurocritical care unit (NCCU) to help care for patients with severe TBI. On the NCCU the microdialysis analytes of interest are glucose, lactate, pyruvate, glycrol and glutamate. The microdialysis samples can then be analysed for other substances in the lab.
