Research ThemesInterestsI look at the development of cortical cultures and use a comparative approach to quantitatively characterise differences in neural activity between healthy and diseased cultures. In my research project I study activity in a culture with a mutation in its NMDA receptor, which is a genetic model of Rett syndrome. We record its spontaneous activity using multi-electrode arrays. The research aims to establish how the neural network malfunctions in the disease, so different pharmaceutical agents can be applied in search for experimental treatments. Research Focus
