Interests

I am a post-doctoral researcher at Cambridge Institute for Medical Research. My research interests aim to understand the mechanisms that could prevent accumulation of misfolded toxic proteins in neurodegenerative diseases. To maintain proper protein homeostasis in the cell, aberrant proteins must be rapidly recognized and either corrected or degraded. Failure to recognize targets results in the accumulation of faulty products which could acquire neurotoxic properties leading to neuronal loss. The ubiquitin proteasome system (UPS) and autophagy are vital for their clearance and modulation of these pathways were shown to be relevant in neurodegenerative diseases. In my research I try to understanding the mechanisms by which cell protects its environment from misfolded protein aggregates, what may aid the development of therapeutic strategies for neurodegenerative diseases.
