Interests

My PhD centres around the investigation of biomarkers of TBI in patients, including protein markers of neuronal/axonal injury and neuroinflammatory response, as well as small-molecule biomarkers. I will study these biomarkers in brain microdialysates of severe TBI patients in neurocritical care, whilst also looking at biomarkers in the blood of mild and severe TBI patients, post-injury, both acutely and chronically. I will also investigate the production of biomarkers in brain cell cultures under stress model conditions and explore potential therapeutic agents.

Beyond TBI sequelae, I aim to research into the identification and utilisation of neuroprotective substances, using cell models to investigate the applicability and efficacy of these agents in differing simulated severities of TBI.
