Postdoctoral Research Associate/Research Assistant in Behavioural Neuroscience
Department/Location: Department of Psychology, Central Cambridge
Published: 26 January 2016
Closing date: 15 February 2016
An opening is available for a Postdoctoral Research Associate/Research Assistant in Behavioural Neuroscience to join The Translational Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory (Directors: Professor Lisa Saksida and Professor Timothy Bussey) in the Department of Psychology, University of Cambridge.
The TCN Lab (http://www.tcnlab.psychol.cam.ac.uk/) pioneered the development of rodent cognitive assessments using touchscreen technology (Horner et al., 2013; Oomen et al., 2013; Mar et al., 2013 Nature Protocols) and has successfully demonstrated the utility of these assays in characterising cognitive phenotypes in both rodent models of disease and relevant patient groups (Nithianantharajah et al., 2013 Nature Neuroscience and Nithianantharajah et al., 2015 Science Reports).
The TCN Lab, in conjunction with the laboratory of Dr. Chris Heath in the Department of Life, Health and Chemical Sciences, The Open University has recently been awarded a 3 year Project Grant by the National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research (NC3Rs) to develop and validate a series of touchscreen-based assays for the evaluation of motivation and affective state in laboratory rodents. Successful development of these assays will provide standardised, mild-severity alternative methods with which to study these constructs that also have high forward-translational potential.
The successful applicant should have a PhD in Behavioural Neuroscience or a related discipline (Research Associate) or be close to completing their PhD (Research Assistant) with experience of rodent behavioural studies and behavioural pharmacology. Experience of operant behavioural paradigms, task development/validation and/or environmental enrichment manipulations are highly desirable.
The salary range if appointed as a Research Associate is £28,982 - £37,768 per annum and the salary range if appointed as Research Assistant is £25,023 - £28,982 per annum with promotion to Postdoctoral Research Associate on attainment of PhD.
