Professor Barbara Sahakian in interview on Radio 4
Jim Al-Khalili from Radio 4’s ‘The Life Scientific’ meets Cambridge neuroscientist Professor Barbara Sahakian. Neurotransmitters are chemicals in the brain, which affect our memory and understanding, and neuropharmacology is the study of drugs, which can be used in conditions like Alzheimer's disease or depression. But can new treatments improve the performance of surgeons or pilots and could they even be used to make us more entrepreneurial? Professor Trevor Robbins also contributes to the conversation about the CANTAB® battery of tests originally developed by himself and Professor Sahakian (now commercialised and developed by Cambridge Cognition). As of 22 May 2012 CANTABmobile, a mobile medical device to aid early detection of Alzheimer’s disease within 10 minutes was made available for sale to UK doctors.
