When humans anticipate a perturbation to an object that they are holding, they strengthen their grip on the object predictively. We use predictive grip force responses as a way of studying the ability of humans to predict the dynamics of the world. This way, we hope to understand to what extent humans can learn the physics of various held and falling objects, and to what extent they can modulate their grip force responses appropriately.
