Interests

My research in computational vision includes a number of areas, in particular the recovery of shape, object detection and recognition. My group has developed algorithms for reconstructing three-dimensional shapes of objects from multiple images as applied to building virtual models of museum artefacts and buildings. Current research focuses on advancing the theory and techniques in order to build practical, easy to use systems.

In the area of object recognition we are interested in automatically learning features that characterise objects and finding them in unknown visual scenes. Such algorithms will find their way into automous robotics as well as systems for driving or parking assistance.

The area of recognition of motion and gestures offers potential for developing new types of human-computer interfaces. Robust recognition of hand motion will make touch-free interaction with any type of device possible and will allow the automatic translation of sign language.
