Interests

My research activities are based on the development of quantitative fluorescence microscopy techniques for the investigation of disease-related biological problems. During my PhD, I built an unsupervised fluorescence lifetime microscope with which the differential ubiquitination of alpha-synuclein mutants was assayed. Furthermore, lifetime and confocal imaging was used to image the association of synuclein mutants with tau and the actin cytoskeleton. Also, theoretical and technological developments have been pursued to exploit the wealth of information of quantitative imaging and provide user-friendly cost-effective technologies for the benefit of the biomedical community. I have also worked on the generation of GFP-based biosensors and, currently, I am working on high resolution 3D microscopy to investigate the homeostasis of red blood cells infected by P.falciparum. My interest in the neurosciences continues thanks to collaborative projects on molecular interactions of synuclein.
